All scholars are in agreement on the fact that the sense of sight held supremacy over the other senses during the Renaissance; however, in earlier periods it also played an important role, specially for the Greeks. In this article, some concepts are analyzed such as: “contemplating”, “speculating” and “considering” where this privileged position of sight is hidden. The development leads to a moment of singular importance: the birth of philosophical reflection.
