Memory with regard to the relationship between spirit ans matter en Henri Bergson

Abstract

This work fries to comprehend the role of memory in H. Bergson's attempt to resolve the problem of the relationship between spirit and matter in the context of the ideas of his time. Here the subject of memory is approached from the view of its significance for the philosophical discussion that Bergson maintained with materialist monism. Using certain passages from Matter and Memory, we attempt to establish the problem just as it was posed to Bergson in that situation and it reveals in a general way the original form that he conceived in order to resolve it. One should not expect an exhaustive study but only the exposition of some motives that allow the reader to take a look at his conception.
