Abstract

This essay emphasizes music history as a cognitive cultural construct. It adopts different signic terms, concepts and categories taken from Peirce, Greimas, Lotman and Eco from an unorthodox point of view. In the light of semiotics, we intend to describe the data from the history of music. The period analyzed here includes the 19th century to the present and, based on the notion of style, describes new lines of development in musical semiotics.
